Why do students pursue a Degree in Theology?
Some people need a close connection between the work they do and the values they hold closest. When faith is at the center of a person’s life, it seems only natural to pursue a degree in theology or divinity. Not only do these degrees give students a grounding in the religions of the world and the historical, theological, linguistic and philosophical underpinnings of their own religion, but it prepares them for any number of rewarding careers that involve making the lives of others better.
Careers could include entering the ministry in various roles, including that of a youth pastor or a chaplain, or becoming a researcher, writer or scholar. Because students of theology or divinity often receive training in Latin, Greek, Sanskrit and other languages, they are uniquely poised to do important primary research into religious history and documents.
Counseling is another possible career field. Most types of ministry involve this type of work, and students could also use the degree as the base for further study in the area of counseling and psychology. They could then go on to counsel in an environment specific to their religion, or they could work in a more secular counseling field using their spiritual underpinnings and the knowledge from their divinity and theology degrees in guiding their work.

Minister/Pastor:
A theology degree is the first step into becoming a minister/pastor at a church. Most churches require newly graduated students to start as an associate minister/pastor and work their way up to a head pastoral role.

Missions Work:
